How your donations help the NSPCC

Part of your donation to Charities @ Work is used by the NSPCC to help protect children from cruelty. Over 85% of the NSPCC’s funding comes from supporters like you, and this support is vital as each week between one and two children will die following cruelty. The NSPCC’s vision is a society in which all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential.

As you may know the NSPCC runs a 24-hour helpline and are deeply worried to think that they are missing calls when all the lines are already busy. Children’s lives may be at stake so with the help from people like you we hope to provide more phone lines and more trained Children’s Services Practitioners to take calls from anyone concerned about the welfare of a child, or from children themselves.

Think what might have happened if the following call from Andy had not managed to get through to the NSPCC…..

Andy lived with his uncle, who left him alone inside most days and forced him to do things he did not want to do. When he thought things could get no worse, the beatings with a wooden stick began.

For a young child like Andy, traumatised by neglect and cruelty, calling for help was a huge step into the unknown. Forbidden to go near the phone, threatened with physical abuse, it must have taken more courage than we can imagine to try and find a way out. The NSPCC called the Police immediately and they agreed to go and collect Andy at once. He was taken to the Social Services office and they found him a safe place to stay. Those few minutes on the phone helped to change Andy’s life, and the NSPCC able to take the call because of people like you.

On average, £14 could pay for a Children’s Services Practitioner on the Helpline to deal with a call like Andy’s or from someone worried about a child’s welfare, so any donation you could give would make a big difference.

The NSPCC also has Schools Teams to help ensure children experiencing cruelty or emotional distress at home can find someone to confide in. They also help families through difficult times to ensure all children can grow up loved and in a secure environment, and counselling services for children who have suffered abuse. The mission of the NSPCC is to end cruelty to children. Your gift will support all these child protection teams and projects in their work towards ending child abuse once and for all.

Message from the NSPCC: All individuals in NSPCC cases are guaranteed complete confidentiality. To protect that trust, the names and details of all people featured in these cases have been changed and models used in the photographs. The essential details of each case, however, are true.
