How your donations help the British Red Cross

Who we are

The British Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the world’s largest independent humanitarian network. We are guided by the Movement’s principles - including humanity, neutrality and impartiality - in all our actions.

Our mission is to be the leading voluntary provider of emergency help to people in most need, anywhere in the world. Your donation to Charities @ Work is helping us to make a very real difference to people in crisis.

Our work is carried out by 40,000 volunteers, who devote their time to delivering services to people in vulnerable communities, including helping the elderly or infirm when they leave hospital, lending medical equipment on a short-term basis and helping re-unite families separated by conflict or natural disaster.

What we do

In the UK, the British Red Cross supports the statutory services at the scenes of major emergencies, such as train crashes, floods or public evacuations, by providing first aid and welfare services to victims and their families. The British Red Cross also works with the Government in spreading awareness and knowledge of international humanitarian law.

Overseas, as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the British Red Cross assists in the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters, such as earthquakes, famine and war. It also works directly with local communities to improve their ability to cope with natural disasters and the 'silent emergencies' of disease and hunger.

Internationally:

  • We respond to emergencies
  • We act before disaster strikes
  • We meet the health needs in the community
  • We protect people in armed conflict
  • We help each other
  • We send people overseas
  • We put people back in touch

How your gift can help us

£5 - could buy 2 survival blankets for accident victims.

£10 - could contribute to the cost of tracing a loved one through the Red Cross Tracing Service.

£20 - could buy two complete first aid kits for use by trained Red Cross personnel in an emergency situation such as an earthquake.

£50 - could pay for physiotherapy to help a landmine victim walk again.

Please note that the British Red Cross is a neutral humanitarian organisation and is unable to endorse any company or other organisation, its products or services.
